Police departments across Texas are planning more vigilance at movie theaters and other public places after the Colorado theater massacre.

Law enforcement agencies in Dallas, San Antonio and Abilene are among those saying they have procedures established to respond quickly and effectively to incidents such as the deadly rampage in suburban Denver.

In some cases they say their officers have several years’ training in how to deal with a person who is actively firing a weapon in public buildings.

Abilene Police Chief Stan Standridge acknowledges that “no community is ever prepared for the sudden, tragic loss of life” but they are all doing what they can to keep their citizens safe.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus says he’s “thankful the (Colorado) suspect was arrested quickly.”
